Co-Chairs

The Working Group on Youth of the Regional Collaborative Platform for Latin America and the Caribbean serves the following key functions:

  • Act as the technical advisory group on Youth to the Regional Collaborative Platform on sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, ensuring a coherent United Nations response to the needs and interests of young people in the region, in all their diversity.

  • Assist United Nations country teams in their roles supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the country level, and the involvement of youth in the Sustainable Development Goals and the implementation of the Montevideo Consensus.

  • Facilitate the sharing of experiences at the regional level, including successes, challenges, and lessons learned, to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Services

• Developing information, tools and /or analysis about the situation of young people in Latin America and the Caribbean or specific sub-regions.
• Provision of technical assistance for the development of inter-agency programming on youth.
• In the Caribbean, the Working Group on Youth will prioritize the offer of subregional technical support, considering the linguistic, cultural and geopolitical specificities of this subregion, mostly composed of small island developing States, and where United Nations country teams often cover more than one country.

• Undertaking a comparative study on adolescents and youth policies across the region/subregion/group of countries to support United Nations country teams policy support role in Latin America and the Caribbean.

• Developing guidance and recommendations on adolescents and youth specific public policy areas for a specific set of countries.

• Training sessions for United Nations country teams and/or external counterparts (as requested through the Resident Coordinators) on topics related to adolescents and youth.

• Producing and disseminating joint key messages and/or joint communications strategy on adolescents and youth.

• Development of joint positioning in relevant subregional, regional, or global inter-government fora to advance the implementation of the Youth 2030 United Nations Secretary-General Strategy on Youth, the participation of adolescents and youth in relevant spaces, or to advocate for advancing adolescents and youth rights, development, and health.
