Between 2000 and 2022, Latin America and the Caribbean experienced 1,534 disasters, affecting 190 million people and causing significant economic and social disruption. Despite the clear benefits of investing in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate resilience, national budgets in the region continue to allocate minimal resources for proactive risk management, and international cooperation for DRR remains limited.

In the face of increasing climate-related risks and financial constraints, it is imperative to rethink how the region finances its development. This event—co-organized by the Issue-Based Coalitions (IBCs) on Climate Change & Resilience and Equitable Growth & Financing for Development—will bring together experts to explore a new generation of strategies to scale up risk-informed investments, protect development gains, and build resilient, inclusive and sustainable economies.

This high-level dialogue will provide concrete recommendations and regional messages ahead of COP30, contributing to the development of a financial architecture that prioritizes resilience, equity, and sustainability.
