On July 15, as part of World Youth Skills Day, a regional activity will be held, driven by youth organizations from Latin America and the Caribbean, with the technical support of the ILO and the UN Youth Working Group.
The event seeks to highlight young people who excel in key employment sectors, who will share their experiences and recommendations to improve access to decent work in the region. The activity is carried out with the support of the Regional Youth Working Group of the UN Regional Collaborative Platform and adds to the global commemoration organized in New York by the Permanent Missions of Portugal and Sri Lanka to the UN, together with UNESCO, the ILO, and the UN Youth Office, which will focus on the integration of digital skills and artificial intelligence in education systems.
Background
This commitment stems from the hybrid workshop “Youth Building Solutions for Youth Employment in Latin America and the Caribbean,” held on June 18 with the participation of 135 young people from 16 countries in the region. The activity was organized by the Latin American Youth Network for Democracy, Youth, Politics and Development, Asuntos del Sur, and the Argentine Youth Network, with the technical support of the ILO Regional Office. The event was based on the recommendations of the report “Youth in Transition,” published by the ILO in March 2025, which highlights the need to strengthen skills development, promote formal jobs with social protection, foster equal opportunities, and encourage youth participation in public policies.
