UN Information Laboratory on Crime and Corruption for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN iLabCC)
What is the UN iLabCC?
The United Nations Information Laboratory on Crime and Corruption for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN iLabCC) aims to provide UN Resident Coordinators, RC Offices and UN Country Teams with access to tools, knowledge products and e-learning on corruption and organized crime, amongst other topics linked to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 and other correlated SDGs.
It is a project developed and led by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and implemented jointly by the United Nations System in the framework of the Regional Collaborative Platform in Latin America and the Caribbean through its Issue-based Coalition on Governance for Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
UN iLabCC aims to provide key resources for the development of evidence-based legal, policy and institutional frameworks to effectively prevent and combat transnational organized crime and corruption, amongst other topics related to SDG 16, with the aim of strengthening the capacities of UNCTs and ultimately Member States in the region.
UN iLabCC offers: (i) a library with United Nations specialized tools, knowledge products and resources; and (ii) a space for access to courses and seminars.
The target audience of UN iLabCC is made up of Resident Coordinators and members of the United Nations Country Teams in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), members of the IBC on SDG 16 in LAC, and other staff members from agencies, programmes and funds that make up the United Nations Regional Collaboration Platform for LAC.
Our Mission
The United Nations Information Laboratory on Crime and Corruption for Latin America and the Caribbean - UN iLabCC is a knowledge hub specially crafted for sharing well-curated information and resources to enhance the UN system’s work against organized crime and corruption.
Our mission is to empower UN Resident Coordinators, their offices, and UN Country Teams (UNCTs) to address the critical challenges of corruption and organized crime - along with other related issues pivotal to SDG 16 and associated SDGs - by providing comprehensive access to a suite of tools and knowledge products, as well as e-learning resources.
The platform offers key assets for the crafting of evidence-based legal and institutional frameworks, policy advice, and technical assistance. These services aims to ultimately enhance Member States´s capacities within the region to effectively prevent and tackle transnational organized crime, corruption, amongst other priority areas.
Our Audience
The UN Information Laboratory on Crime and Corruption for Latin America and the Caribbean - UN iLabCC is designed for the Resident Coordinators, their offices and UN Country Teams, members of the IBC on SDG 16, and staff from various agencies, programs, and funds that form the backbone of the RCP LAC.
Participating UN entities
The UN iLabCC stands as a pivotal initiative developed under the umbrella of the RCP LAC Issue-based Coalition on Governance for Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions with the technical lead of UNODC. This innovative project is a collective effort, embodying the collaborative spirit of the United Nations and aligning with the overarching goals of the RCP LAC.
Currently, the project involves the active participation of UNODC (lead), CTED, DPPA, ILO, OHCHR, UNDP, UNESCO, UNFPA, UNHCR, UNICEF, UNOPS, UN-Women. It is hoped that other UN entities will soon join and contribute to this joint project.
As a flagship initiative of the RCP LAC, the UN iLabCC embodies the collective effort to address some of the most pressing challenges in the region, marking a significant step forward in the journey towards peace, justice, and strong institutional foundations.
